Cattle sick
REPORTED cases of bovine ephemeral fever, or three-day sickness as it is more commonly known, in cattle throughout the Central Highlands is common for this time of year, according to Clermont veterinarian Alan Guilfoyle.
Dr Guilfoyle said while there had been some reported cases of the disease, it was the same as in previous years.
However, AgForce policy director Oscar Pearse said reports in the last few weeks showed there were a significant number of properties affected.
Second chance
POLICE are hoping a talented young sportsman will not have to appear in the Blackwater Magistrate's Court again after last week.
Keagan Brian Darcy Freeman, 17, appeared in court on one charge of public nuisance.
Prosecutor Kay Schick told the court Freeman was intoxicated, shirtless and challenging several men to a fight in Cork Street, Blackwater at 6am on February 19, 2010.
Freeman was convicted and fined $250. The conviction was not recorded.
Noisy party
A MOTHER and son appeared in Blackwater Magistrate's Court last week after a house party had their neighbours losing sleep.
Annabelle Ivy Powder, 40, and Geoffrey Allan Kevin Lammermoor, 18, were both charged with obstructing police. Powder also faced one count of public nuisance.
Police received several noise complaints from Cork Street residents on February 28, 2010. They attended the address at 2.55am and were called back at 3.15am.
Powder was convicted on both charges and fined $450
